Nichola asks a great question when she says:
"Not sure it is such a good idea to admit that you have hobbies when you are writing about technical stuff, although uncannily I share 3 out of David's 4 mentioned."
You just blew it Nichola - now I want to know what the 3 are? And then because I already know you're a woman (hard to miss), I want to know your views on discrimination against women in the profession and as you're a techie with attitude, I want to know how you use your talent for erudition to sink illiterate HMRC Inspectors. See where this is going?
The more important issue is I can see David as a real person. He's alive in my mind. So I already have an affinity for this guy. And then if I also like what he writes, then hey, he's already 75% there to grabbing me as a client. But you know what? I'm going to try before I buy so now I enter into online conversations with him. Hey - he is human and not the product of a script writer. I like the guy. He makes me feel important and valuable. So now I'm buying services I could never have dreamt of because our conversations have been so valuable, my business is doing really well. And I don't mind paying David along the way. Oh yes - he's got a great bunch of clients - we're all friends.
All because he said something about abusing a church organ and pints of beer!
